About Us Sport. Life. Inclusion.
The South Australian Sport and Recreation Association for People with Integration Difficulties Incorporated (SASRAPID) is an organisation which assists people with integration difficulties to become involved in community activities. SASRAPID provides assistance and enables participation into valued community sport, recreation and leisure activities. All inclusion is based on the ability and individual choice of the person.
SASRAPID was established in 1982 and since its inception has enhanced the quality of life of thousands of South Australians who have an integration difficulty by:
- Enabling access into sport, recreation and leisure opportunities at local level
- Providing leisure counseling to individuals, families, care givers and professionals
- Enabling access into sport at State, National and International levels
- Assisting individual elite athletes to compete in their chosen sport
- Providing assistance and guidance in all aspects of the life of the person with an integration difficulty and their family.
** Integration Difficulties
SASRAPID perceives a person with ‘integration difficulties’ to be anybody who requires assistance to access
regular sport and recreation opportunities of the general community, e.g.-
¨ intellectual and/or physical disability;
¨ learning difficulty/developmental delay;
¨ other diagnosed disabilities; or
¨ other circumstance, which may affect the integration of a person into regular community activities.
Philosophy
SASRAPID perceives integration to be the inclusion of individuals, teams and groups of people with an integration difficulty into regular leisure opportunities of the general community, taking into consideration their wishes and opinions.
